Celebrate our island home with an exciting day of festivities at the 7th Annual Coral Reef Awareness and Earth Day Fair.

The events open with a blessing by Mahealani Pai at 9:45 am followed by activities, displays and games for families including Hawaiian crafts, lei making, weaving, music and entertainment. Families will meet “Humu” the walking, talking fish, learn from ReefTeach, Fish for Knowledge about the Sea and participate in a coloring contest. There will be tide pool adventures, great whale and dolphin experiences, games and crafts and the ReefTheater that will showcase underwater films and slide shows.

Coral Reef Awareness 2006Many booths will be featured by environmental organizations and agencies that showcase Hawaii Island’s fragile ecosystems. A short trip around the Big Island through the activities and displays will showcase why conservationists consider Hawaii to be at the forefront of the global extinction crisis and help to educate the public about some of the rarest plants and animals on earth.

Come and learn about native plants and birds, corals, whales, turtles, monk seals and more. Learn how you can support Hawaii Island’s fragile ecosystems and species through resource and habitat management, education and conservation practices.

Vendors and organizations wanting to reserve booth space and people wishing to volunteer may contact Jessi at Hawaii Forest and Trail at 331-8505.
