Recruitment Notice for Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawaii, Class XII (2008-2009), a 16-month program.
Recruitment Information for persons wanting to strengthen Hawaii agriculture and Big Island sustainability
Core curriculum includes:
– Collaborative decision-making and problem solving
– Facilitative leadership
– Strategic thinking and planning
– Group process skills
Eligibility:
– U.S. citizenship, and Hawaii resident for at least two years
– Approval from employer to commit required time to the program (If self-employed, demonstrate ability to be away from business)
– Fit within one of these two categories:
Category I, Agriculture or Ag Support industry/business – Earn livelihood in ag production or packing/processing – Work in a business that supports ag, i.e. transport, banking, etc.

Category II, Community

– Direct work responsibility for rural community development or sustainability

– Significant volunteer work for rural community development or sustainability

Tuition: $4,000, payable in three installments; allocated to inter-island airfare and lodging, plus airfare and lodging during the Washington, DC, portion of the national trip. All meals and incidental expenses during statewide seminars, plus lodging during the state portion of the national trip, are the participant’s responsibility.

Applicants are encouraged to seek sponsorship from their companies, fraternal, civic or other organizations. Limited partial scholarships are available from ALFH based on financial need.
